Morocco: Is John McCain Batman?

In a post entitled “7didane support Obama The Grayman”, Moroccan blogger Navire Ivre posts questions from a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, in which Obama is asked “If you could be any superhero, which superhero would you be?” Obama answers:

I was always into the Spider-Man/Batman model. The guys who have too many powers, like Superman, that always made me think they weren’t really earning their superhero status. It’s a little too easy. Whereas Spider-Man and Batman, they have some inner turmoil. They get knocked around a little bit.

The blogger then posts John McCain's response to the same question:

Batman. He does justice sometimes against insurmountable odds. And he doesn’t make his good works known to a lot of people, so a lot of people think he’s just a rich playboy.

He then answers the question himself [fr]:

Mon choix est fait : je supporte Obama. La réponse de McCain surfe sur le succès populaire du dernier Batman, alors que les conseillers d’Obama ont bien argumenté.

My choice is made: I support Obama. McCain's response is surfing on the popular success of the last Batman movie, while Obama advisers make a good argument.

Morocco… you need to get out and read more about these candidates.

Between the two of them John McCain has done more to make the US electorate safe and assure a good quality of life than Mr. Obama has.

You also need to learn to read between the lines.

    McCain is most definitely Batman.

  • Nobama girl…First of all, there is no reason Moroccans must learn anything about the US elections. Those that do are going above and beyond, and I really appreciate their attentiveness.

Second, can you please explain what you think John McCain has done to assure a good quality of life in the US?

I beg to disagree guys; it is precisely countries like Morocco that should be extremely worried and at the same time vigilant to events happening in the US. Moroccan nationals have formed the bulk of recruits in Europe and the Maghreb by Al-Qaida operatives. Also, Morocco has many opened dossiers at the international arena. The Western Sahara issue is still not resolved and the noted rapprochement between the USA and Algeria could be a major concern for Morocco. The USA has extensively invested in Algeria mainly in the OIL sector as America is diversifying they source of energy and exploited the vacuum left by the Europeans, mainly France. The US so far has ignored the part of the world and was not interested in Democratic reform and Human rights abuses. Libya is also becoming the lost friend of US and on the verge of becoming an ally. The whole Maghreb should brace for substantial geopolitical changes in the way Washington will engage with them in the next administration.
