French Conservatives Rally for McCain

If there ever were any doubts that the US presidential election matchup has gone global, they were put to rest by the resurgence of websites and blogs calling for support for McCain.

A recurrent theme among the “France for McCain” blogs is the need to counterbalance what they perceive as an unfounded, superficial “Obamadulation”.

Rachid Kaci, UMP [1] (French  Ruling Party) executive adviser and president of “Droite Libreexplains why John McCain is the president America needs [2]:

Were the US to yield a bit of its power and its determination to fight a new totalitarian regime, then we will all surely sink into absolute chaos… Barack Obama and his willingness to be seen as the absolute unifier, the bridge between different people and different religions will be a sign of weakness for the fascists everywhere, the same way Jimmy Carter was perceived in the 80's and whose presidential mandate was ridiculed by dictators all over the world.

He adds:

No one would benefit from a weakened America, especially not France [..] The support he (Obama) gets here in France, too often originates from his ethnic background and not his political program.

Luc Gaubert, member of the France for John McCain [3] committee, argues that there is a cultural warfare against western civilization [4] and that John McCain's biography indicates that he is the right man to defend it:

Today, running against a very young, inexperienced, idolized democratic candidate, he (McCain) is a reassuring known entity, a man capable of making tough decisions. At might, with the safety of the free world under so many threats, he (McCain) reads ” The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire [5]“.
His election should involve only the American people, but also all supporters of democracy around the world who think that the western civilization is under attack and that the theocracies that would supplant them are not the ideal situation for humanity today.
