Global: Obama’s record-breaking fund raising effort

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama broke yet another record – raising over $66 million in August with about 500,000 new donors.

Michael van der Galien of the Netherlands wrote in his blog, PoliGazette, that the news will boost Obama’s campaign, especially after he denied accepting federal funds.

“Obama’s recordbreaking fundraising numbers will undoubtedly result in more glowing headlines in many prominent media outlets in the coming days and weeks. This extra positive attention would come at a time when Obama was falling in the polls, and when most eyes were focused on Sarah Palin and McCain.”

While Piaras Kelly from Ireland writes in his blog, PKellyPR, Obama’s fund raising efforts are incredible, but the Democrat still encounters a problem.

“In my opinion Barack Obama faces a problem. He has galvanised the support of millions of new voters on the promise of change. If Barack Obama and John McCain were brands, Obama would be Abercrombie & Fitch to McCain’s Gap. However Obama leaves himself open to the accusation of being all style, but no substance.

While Obama has built this fantastic communications platform on change, he hasn’t set out any specifics as to what it actually means. As a result voters are starting to get a little bored with him. It’s like seeing an amazing ad and being thoroughly amused by it, but bored after the hundredth time of watching it.”

Colombian Charles Lemos writes in his blog, By the Fault, further analyzes Obama’s campaign problem.

“The problem that can be foreseen is that if Obama falls back significantly in the polls in the next two weeks, which is really the window he has, his money will start to dry up because who wants to back a losing effort only further complicating his final push. The other point that can be made is that if Obama has to devote more time and energy to fundraising, it also leaves less time for campaigning.”

And Mexican blogger Baron Vitelius of Estera writes one simple sentence in his blog, Brainiac Conspiracy:

“Obama hauls in $66 million in August. So, which AP scribe will be the first to tell us why this is bad news for Democrats?”
