During a rally Wednesday in Ohio, John McCain’s running mate Governor Sarah Palin explained what she did as mayor and as governor. One of her key policies, she said, was to get rid of as many taxes as possible, in order to let people spend their money as they saw fit, which resulted in economic growth, she said.

What she did, Palin said in Ohio, was “going back” to basics.

Furthermore, she said, Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi would do the exact opposite: they would not pursue policies that would grow the economy, instead, they would focus on ’spreading the wealth around’ in a sense of misguided ‘fairness,’ which would hurt rather than help the U.S. economy she said.

She made the case for divided government by pointing out that nothing would stand in the Democrats’ way if they would occupy Congress and the White House.

Palin then went on to say that she and McCain would make the United States less dependent on foreign government for its energy needs. “We’ll drill here and we’ll drill now. We will drill baby, drill, and mine, baby mine,” she said.

Lastly, Palin said, they would, aside from government reform, energy, and strong economic reforms, pursue a plan that would help children “with special needs.” Sometimes, Palin said, these children and their parents get the impression they do not belong in society, that they do not have a place in it. That is not what she and McCain believe, she said, they believe that “all innocent life” should be protected and feel welcome.

“Ohio, from now until election day, you will hear our opponents” claim they will “fight for you,” she said. But “there’s only one man in this race who has every really fought for you,” Palin said. “There is only one man with the courage to keep on fighting for you, and that man is John McCain,” she concluded.
