Iran: Hillary or Obama – America is the Winner

Iranian bloggers continue to watch the US elections closely, drawing parallels between the elections in the US and that on their own turf. While Ron Paul is a favourite for one blogger, a prominent female blogger is excited about Senator Hillary Clinton's prospects – saying that her nomination as a woman for her country's top office is something impossible to replicate in Iran.

Mostafa Ghavanlo Ghajar, who has a blog named New Journalist, is disappointed to hear that the Republican Party or any of President G W Bush’s adherents could regain power again.

Whether black Obama or Hillary Clinton are elected, America is winner, because Obama will be the first black president and the other will be the first woman president. At any rate, the United States would pride itself for both.

Mekal, who is a teacher, compares the presidential elections in Iran to that in the US, where the issues are totally different. He notes:

They talk only about the economy. There seems to be nothing else – not believing in Christianity and the Constitution; not about being atheist or not; not about the conspiracy against the United States. There is nothing but the economy.

Ghormeh, a blog by a young Iranian woman, which is named after a delicious dish, feels the institutional set up in the US guarantees fair elections.

She writes:

The representatives of nominees and the Press, in addition to the authorities and the judicial system of the United States guarantee an honest election.

Such an election, with the exception of some problems, is possible to carry out in any other place, all over the world.

Former Parliament member Dr Jamileh Kadivar, who is married to Ata'ollah Mohajerani and Iran's former Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, compares between the elections in her country and the US too.

She says:

The US presidential election has taught us until now that democracy prepares the ground for anyone to attain the highest ranks and power, without sexual or racial discrimination. People can choose the proper course to pursue by comparing the different programmes (of the candidates) for a long time (before the elections).

She further adds:

Suppose that this election was being held in Iran. First of all, Hillary Clinton couldn’t be elected, because according to the Constitution, only male clergymen and politicians can be elected. In addition, some candidates, don't know whether they will be allowed to nominate themselves or not, until only one or two weeks before the elections. And these are the election system indicators in our country.

Ramin, in his blog, Avicenna, offers a suggestion. He wants all Iranians all over the world to announce which candidate they support?

He explains:

Someone may ask that only the Iranians who live in the United States can vote, but choosing any of nominees has a different effect on the future of Iran and the world. As a result, we, Iranian bloggers can send our special message to Iranians living in America and American politicians. If you accept my suggestion and do something, it will have a good reflection on mass media, so the politicians will have a better view of Iran and Iranians.

Ramin asks his readers:

Which candidates do you support in the US presidential election and why?

Hamed responds:

I myself prefer Ron Paul among the Republicans. He is very anti-war and he hasn’t voted against Iran in Congress. Although I don’t know Barack Obama very well, I like him among the Democrats’ nominees.
